The 7th PRCTH successfully concluded its 2-day conference with the theme Promoting Peace and Diversity Through Edutourism and Hospitality last September 12-13, 2024 at the SEARCA in UP Los Baños.
Co-organized by the UP Asian Institute of Tourism, the UP Diliman Department of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management, the UP Los Baños PASEO the Nayong Pilipino Foundation, Inc. and Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, the PRCTH gathered over a hundred researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders with the aim of exploring the tourism and hospitality industry’s crucial role in both nation building and understanding of global peace.
The conference covered about 15 topics focusing on technology in hospitality and tourism, tourism policy and destination management, rural tourism, food, culture and gastronomy tourism, resiliency in hospitality and tourism, tourism education and SDGs, human resource in tourism and hospitality, and sustainable tourism. The conference brought together academics, students, and industry professionals who presented their research using various frameworks, methods, and case studies to highlight the higher purpose of tourism.
Among the conference’s highlights are its three (3) keynote speeches from Professor Perry. Hobson of Breda University, Professor Cihan Cobanoglu from the University of South Florida, and Director Marites Maguindra from Bureau of Tourism, Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism, BARMM; three (3) panel discussions with eleven (11) resource persons on Edutourism, Dark Tourism, and Tourism and Peace; and four (4) parallel sessions with 52 paper presentations.
Delegates and participants were also welcomed by UP Los Baños during the Chancellor’s Night for the launching of the UPLB PASEO TRIPPS app. The occasion served as a showcase of talent, cultural exchange and a celebration of new and renewed partnerships.
The PRCTH will continue to serve as a platform linking cooperation between educational institutions in promoting inclusive and equitable quality education and learning opportunities in tourism and hospitality.
